A National Model for Cancer Survivorship

A National Model for Cancer Survivorship recognizes that cancer patients and their families face similar and complex challenges no matter where they live. The principles developed by Levine Cancer—whether in survivorship, symptom management, or caregiver support—are not confined to one hospital system. These principles will create best practices that can be replicated at hospitals and clinics across the United States and eventually the world. They advance cutting edge research on improving the quality of life for survivors and will establish national training programs for physicians, nurses and workers.

What is Supportive Oncology?

Supportive care is the prevention and management of the adverse effects of cancer and its treatment. Essential to modern cancer care, supportive oncology emphasizes treating the whole person, including the spiritual and mental effects of cancer. By complementing traditional medical oncology treatments, supportive oncology results in better quality of life and improved outcomes for many patients.

Supportive Oncology includes: Cancer Rehabilitation, Survivorship, Physical Therapy, Massage Therapy, Nutritional Counseling, Palliative Care, Patient Navigation, Psycho-Oncology, Senior Oncology, Music and Art Therapy, Research & Education.

In Memoriam

In October 2024, we lost our dear friend Joe Koff. Joe was a life mentor to many and had an incredible passion for life. Joe was an original member of our Musicland Board of Directors.

Our Story

In January of 2021 Kenny Kahn experienced a serious cancer diagnosis firsthand and recognized that what gave him the greatest relief on his journey, was listening to music.

In recognition, friends and family began to make Kenny playlists and share songs, videos and artists. Along the way, Kenny’s daughter Rachel, away at college and feeling far from home, relied on the music she loves to help her find strength during this scary time. They both experienced the healing gift of music.

During Kenny’s cancer journey he was cared for by his Lymphoma team and the Supportive Oncology Department at Atrium Health Levine Cancer. The Supportive Oncology team provided all levels of Survivorship Care including nutritional counseling, psycho-oncology, physical therapy, healing touch massage, acupuncture, palliative care, music therapy, art therapy, cancer rehabilitation and cancer rehabilitation.

Kenny along with thousands of Levine Cancer patients received essential, modern cancer care. The Levine Cancer Supportive Oncology model emphasizes treating the whole person, including the spiritual and mental effects of cancer. By complementing traditional medical oncology treatments, supportive oncology results in better quality of life and improved outcomes for many patients.

This care led Musicland Gift Foundation to support the life changing efforts of the Supportive Oncology Department at Levine Cancer Institute.
